I’m separating my local moths into two major groups: primitive and micro moths, and macro moths. “Primitive moths” is a term that typically refers to the earliest lineages of moths that diverged from their common ancestors before the more “advanced” moth groups. Micro moths are not always small, but most are, and most are evolutionarily more primitive. Macro moths are usually larger than the micros. Click a moth photo to continue.
In my small piece of the Eddy Mountains I’ve seen moths from 43 families. I’ll add more families as I find them. All but a few of my 800+ moth species were found within 2,000′ of my house. In 2024 I will expand my range.
