Family Tortricidae
Glyphipteryx regalis Walsingham, 1881
Thaumatographa regalis is a member of the subfamily Chlidanotinae and, so far, this regal moth is my only example of the subfamily. It’s possible I may see T. youngiella, but not too likely. T. regalia is probably the only species I’ll see from the Chlidanotinae. Walsingham collected his one specimen in August on Mount Shasta. Here in the Eddys, I see them June through September. This moth’s pattern seems to be an attempt to mimic a jumping spider. Here are a few examples of the species.

“I have met with only one specimen, taken on Mount Shasta, California, in August 1871, and slightly denuded at the time of its capture”
Walsingham, Lord. 1881
